New Owner technically illiterate with 90's technology S90-V90 1997

I can Program in Basic, C+, Java and can set the clock on the microwave and the VCR as well as program it for multiple programs through out the week. I just figured that turning off the alarm and inputting the security code for the radio would be a simple task to master.
My new 97 960 (66225 miles) was delivered today. I went out got it washed and put on new wipers. I got in the car after leaving Advance Auto Parts and put the key in the ignition, turned the key and the alarm went off. Took me a good 5 to 6 minutes to figure out how to shut it off. It would stop and as soon as I turned the ignition key the alarm would start back up again. Finally got out closed the door locked and unlocked it with the key and it stopped. Nether wireless transmitter would deactivate the alarm once it was set off. They work because both lock and unlock the doors. Went to turn on the radio and all I get is OFF on the display. I read the owners manual so I guess I'll go input the Radio code in another hour or so. Not once did the unit ever ask me for a code, it just says OFF on the display. It really is a much nicer car over my 1987 745T M46 (318,750 miles).
I just never figured that turning off the alarm or playing the radio would be such a pain in the butt.
I must be getting old and having a senior moment.
Just thought I'd pass this tidbit of being technically illiterate to the rest of you.
