cruise control......any common problems? 200 1986

hello all!, i've got an issue with my cruise control. it worked just fine over this past summer but it suddenly quit around october or so. i checked the fuse and connections to the fuse box and things seem fine there. my car is in pretty good shape with little wear and i have my doubts about it being a problem with the column switch.. are there any other things that often go wrong with these units? if so how could i go about checking those things?
