Hi!
I have a swedish 244 from 1983, it has a B21a engine, with carburetor (Solex Zenith).
1. I'm pretty sure that a valve is missing! According to my manual it is supposed to be in the vaccuum hose between the carb and the distributor. The thing is: it wasn't there when I bought the car and I recently discovered that it is missing. The car has run fine for more than 700 miles - almost a year now. The valve has to be bought directly from Volvo (unless I can get one from a scrapyard) and costs almost 30 US$. So does anyone know the function of this valve? Should I spend the 30 bucks? Another problem might be getting the right valve - there seems to 3 different kinds and even the Volvo people weren't 100% sure which one I should get...
2. The screw for adjusting the idle is broken. It is the kind where the screw is not on the carb. I've bought a new one, but I can't get the old one out. I've tried with pliers, but I suspect that dirt has gotten into it - since it went in fine, but jams half way out! Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
(BTW I read through the ads here at brickboard - and man, prices for old Volvos seem to be high in the US compared to Sweden. I realize that at least some of the cars must be really well maintained (as this is the brickboard) - but a 240 in Sweden never ever costs more than 2500$ - 1000$ is normal. I bought mine for 320$...)
