A/C Belt and PS 200

So my mechanic rigged the belts so my 88 240 wagon does not have A/C now but the good news is that it is not smelling like burning rubber. He did tell me that it would be really expensive to put the A/C back in as I would need a new unit b/c they do not make the old ones anymore for this car? Does anyone have any information about this?
