Cylinder head coolant passages plugged? 700 1990

I just pulled the head on my B230FT to replace a leaking head gasket. Notice as I'm cleaning up the head, that what I thought were coolant deposits clogging several passages, that these passages are filled with metal. I suspect this is how the head is built, but I sure would appreciate confirmation before I put it back on. Anyone been here before? Would sure appreciate any info.
