I was looking around underneath the car (1990 745 16V, 4sp+od) the other day and spied the exhaust support bracket at the transmission. I noticed that it was a metal to metal contact, ie, the exhaust is bolted to the tranny in a fixed relation; no flex. Makes sense, I guess, from a support point of view but wouldn't this transmit exhaust noise direct to the tranny which is separated from the car's interior by not very much (what, a rubber boot?). I wonder if a rubber shim placed between the bracket and tranny would make things quieter without any significant loss of support?
Or am I missing something?
