Kickdown cable adjustment 200 1990

I adjusted the cable as per Bentley, no change no upshift to fourth, howevever 2nd and 3rd upshift seemed more energenic. I have one/quarter inch between the crimped stop and rubber bushing. I took the slack out when adjusting, and should i go a liitle further ,i am almost maxed out on the adjustment bolt.Bob.
