I have been experiencing what I thought was lifter noise at idle. It turns out that the fuel I put in was so bad it caused a "dieseling effect" at idle. Upon putting in Lucas fuel additive and fresh gas, the problem went away.
PS Does anyone know how to shut off the engine servive light. It goes on to remind one to get the car serviced at 10000 mile intervals. It goes out in 2 minutes but is annoying
