Instrument cluster removal 900 1991

My odometer has failed (trip meter too). I've seen the article regarding removal of the instrument cluster. I have the installation with the two slots on the sides of the cluster, through the outer plastic bevel piece. It would appear that the outer plastic bevel does not need to be removed first, but comes out with the cluster. Is that correct?
