740 Turbo intermittently no power under boost 700 1988

I'm about halfway from Houston to Phoenix in my 88 740 when it suddenly has little to no power under boost. I've read the FAQ's about vacuum leaks but didn't see anything about the dangers (if any) of driving it like this. I'm about 430 miles away from a trusted mechanic and wonder if it's safe to continue the trip - not much across I-10 between El Paso and Phoenix. :-)

The car has had a lot of recent service - plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing belt, water pump, radiator, coolant hoses, engine mounts, trans mount, driveshaft bearing, etc - and the car drove wonderfully for the first 600 miles of this trip...

Any thoughts appreciated!

James
