1987 v. 1988 ECM compatible 200

A friends 1987 240 wouldn't start. So, in the parking lot at work I tapped lightly on the ECM while cranking the car and it started. Ran for about 2 weeks now is stranded miles away at his house. He brought me his ECM so I could try it in my 1988. I know they are part numbered and I can look, but before I put the labor in and yank mine and put his in, are they the same?
