Hi There,
I am having a combination of problems, that I think may be related to one another. First thing, I am experiencing the (known) vacuum servo problem with my 1995 960. This is where the A/C cuts out at high acceleration. I have read the proposed solutions on the website and will take a look to see if I can solve that problem.
Perhaps more seriously, I am also noticing some sort of 'smoke' coming from the A/C vents, and it typically occurs in parallel with the A/C cutting out when I accelerate quickly: that is, there is more 'smoke' when the A/C is cutting out. It is not really smoke (hence the quotes), but it is also NOT condensation. It doesn't smell like smoke, but it smells a bit like... antifreeze or something.
Which brings me to my third problem (almost there!). I am losing coolant, and after an thorough test by my mechanic, there is no leak in the cooling system. Does this indicate a possible blown head gasket? Is it possible that it is related to the 'smoke' I get coming out of the A/C vents?
Finally (if you're still reading, I am impressed, and thankful), when it is hot outside (I live in southern california, so this means nearly all the time), and after the car has run for several miles, I hear this weird sort of whining sound when I accelerate really hard. It is hard to describe, but it sort of sounds like a siren off in the distance... "wheeeeeeewwwhhhh" is how it sounds. I am worried it may be the transmission... any ideas? I do not notice a correlation with the sound and any particular engine speed (or gear), but it does appear to only happen when I am accelerating quickly.
Wow. OK, thanks for any suggeestions, hints, etc. And please accept my apologies if these issues are addressed somewhere in the forum. I did some searching, but did not find what I was looking for.
