How to clean an AW70/1 OD Solenoid - help 'bulletproof' ?

Hi

I have a 1989 740 with the AW70L transmission.
The OD only goes into 4th when it's warmed up and driving at about 60Km/H.
The problem appears to be the solenoid as I've checked everything else.

Can someone describe the best method of cleaning the Solenoid such as mentioned at http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=686684 ?

I'd prefer to fix the existing solenoid in preference to disabling it or buying a new one (Volvo want A$600 here in Australia!!)
