Ok, the ABS doesn't seem to be working. The Antilock light is always lit but not brightly, I can only see it at night or by covering the dash to make it dark. This always used to happen in my 91 744 NA so I dismissed it as nothing.
Then, a couple months ago, I was with some friends doing something I shouldn't have been doing. Unluckily, someone had parked in the red zone ahead and I was going way too fast over a dip and couldn't see them. This all culminated in me slamming on the brakes and somehow barely missing the other car. But, the pedal didn't feel like it vibrated. For all the skidding, I still managed to steer the car enough to avoid a collision, though I may have let up on the brakes a bit.
Then, I was on the freeway and a car ahead of me got cut off. He slammed on his brakes and I hit mine, only to find myself in a 4 wheel skid. No shaking pedal and vibrating noise. Just me getting lucky again.
Do sensor failures prevent the ABS from engaging?
I'll try cleaning the sensors soon.
Do you think the ABS module is just dead?
If so, can I just pull one at the junkyard and switch it in? What else would I have to do?
Thanks,
Eamon
