240 beltline trim -- put anything under it? 200

I'm sorry if this has been asked countless times before, but I don't see it after searching...

Is there any wisdom in putting anything under 240 beltline trim moldings?
I see before me trim with a real collection of dirt, and am imagining winter-time SALT there, too. :-(

Well, I have taken the trim off, and will WAX the area on the car. Yea!

IS there any point in adding, well, in boats it would be called LUTING, in one application, or BEDDING compound -- that is, goopy stuff that, by its presence, keeps out water? I doubt it, since the trim cavity (the backside) is so large and loose, but there are many bright Brickster minds out there! :-)

Thanks!
