In my quest to improve the "feel" of the brakes on our 1965 122S, I decided to do a little experimenting. The first order of business was to purchase a new set of PBR Deluxe pads like mcduck suggested. These were a slight improvment over the unknown brand pads that were in there, but I felt that I could do better. Since I had a second set of rotors, I decided to try drilling them to see if there were any performance gains to be had. I am happy to report that it made a very noticable improvment in the braking performance. I don't have a G-Tech Pro or anything like that to accurately measure the stopping distances, so I drilled one rotor at a time and checked the braking with one drilled and the othe not. The car pulled hard to the drilled side, so I drilled the second one and can really tell the difference. Even my wife noticed the difference without me having said anything. I'll just keep a close eye on the pad wear and keep checking for cracks (which I don't think are going to happen given the thickness of the rotors). Here's some shots of what I have done, along with a few shots of my homemade one-man brake bleeder.
