Dirty Brake Fluid - Why? 200 1989

Last December, I bled my brakes. The brake fluid is now very dark with black particles on the bottom of the reservoir. What's this mean? My brakes otherwise work fine. I'll bleed the brakes, but I'm worried that there's a hidden problem.
