My wife took my modified 91 940 Turbo 230BFT with IPD Cam and APC to New York City when suddenly she noticed the horrible rotten egg smell and low power that comes with a Plugged Cat. The car could barely do 10 mph. She called me on the cell in a panic and I told her to park the car and take the train back.
She left the car 4 blocks from TIMES Square--a great place to break down and to try to fix a car!!!
We went back at night(10 pm) We had no choice but to drive the car out of the city.
I went up there with a Floor Jack and a Trunkful of Tools and it was my intention to break the connection between the Cat and the exhaust manifold but this wasnt possible due to NYC's finest asking me what the %^* I was doing...They threatened to impond the car...
I packed my Tools, started the Car and I took the Holland Tunnel out.
I found I could keep the car moving reasonably as long as I didnt load the Engine into Turbo Boost.
It moved along smoothly down the NJ Turnpike for a 100 miles and I felt it would be okay to keep on going.
Here comes the Bad part of the Trip. The BAD Part.
About 2 am when i was Brain Dead and exhausted, the car started stalling and I could here a slap slap kickback noise coming out of the Turbo side of the engine. Unfortunately i couldnt ease the Load on the Engine because I was stuck on the Uphill Heavily Travelled part of the Turnpike.
I had to abuse the Car to keep it going at 30 mph for another 100 miles until I off the Turnpike. The engine was spitting and shaking and kicking in Protest.
Now I am home and well rested. I am doing the Damage Assessment...
What is the probability I damaged my Valves/Turbo? Engine due to the Plugged Cat operating the engine at much higher temperatues than normal. Is it posssible I damaged my head and Turbo seriously? Any detonation?? The car smelled terrible and I thought it was going to burn for a while...
I am really nervous.....
