I own a 1990 744 GLE with the B234 engine. Six months ago the original water pump started to leak. I had it replaced at the local Volvo dealer. Several weeks later the pump was leaking again. Returned to the dealer who promptly replaced it with a second pump - no charge.
Two weeks later the second pump is leaking. The leak shows up as 3 or 4 streaks of anti-freeze running all the way down the balance shaft belt cover.
Returned to the dealer again. He claims after talking to the Volvo NA rep that all the pumps "weep" and that this is normal. I noted that the original water pump had a plastic box mounted under the pump covering the weep hole. Neither of the new pumps have this box and the dealer says none of the pumps in stock have the box.
Should I have a different model pump with a collection box to keep the antifreeze from running down the balance shaft belt cover? If so does anyone know the part number of the pump for the B234 engine?
Thanks in advance for any input!!
