I've never had reason to complain about the ride in my 1980 245, but recently a friend got an 83 245 which seems to ride much nicer. By nicer I mean the car seems to have a firmer feel on the highway, it doesn't roll as much around corners, and generally has a more solid, stiff feel, especially going over bumps. On my car, it doesn't seem obvious that the shocks need to be replaced; if I push down on a corner of the hood, it comes up without too much bounce, but as I mentioned, the frame rolls considerably more around corners, and while on the freeway, things seem to be more "bouncy", like a rapid vertical vibration in the car, as if I were driving on those highway reflectors the whole time. Do I just need new shocks (never been replaced in my 3 year ownership of the car), or is there something else I need to look at? Should I spend a lot on better shocks, or get standard cheaper ones? Thanks!
