I have had continual problems with my battery slowly losing it's charge.
1. Like an idiot, I bought the Advance Auto Parts Alternator (yes, I had to replace it twice.)
2. I made sure the belts were tight enough.
3. I replaced the ground wire which runs to the block.
I noticed a posting on one of the other sites, so I think I may have solved the problem, but I wanted to get feedback here before going back under the hood.
On another post a guy was telling someone where to connect the wires:
"......Thin red wire (to spade on alt)and blue ground wire to alt. mounting bracket. If these aren't connected, no charging..... "
Well, mine is right EXCEPT I bolted the ground wire to the block and put the other end onto a screw on the back of the alternator and tightened it down with a nut. I thought this was how it went, but now it seems like maybe I should have put the end on the mounting bracket instead of the alt to keep it grounded.
My theory is that maybe that screw I put it on is grounding it somewhat, but not like it would/should if I had it on the bracket.
Any feedback would be helpful!
