Has anyone found that leaving the exhaust front bracket (that bolts to the transmission) off their exhaust prevents cracked header Y pipes? We have an 86 and 83 with the brackets removed and the header pipes never cracked. On our 85 the bracket is still on, and the header pipe is cracked at the Y. I'm welding the Y since the replacement headers (FCP) are real cheap and rust out quickly. I was told by an exhaust guy to leave the bracket at the trans off since it can be the one of the factors that crack the pipes at the Y, along with worn motor mounts. Has anyone or any professional muffler hangers come across this? Thank You!
