240 Header Pipe Crack 200

I noticed that 2 of our 240s have the bracket removed that secures the front header pipe to the transmission. Both these cars never had a cracked header pipe at the Y, where they commonly crack. Another one of our 240's has always had the bracket installed and it has a cracked pipe. Some muffler shop told me they take the bracket off to prevent the pipe from cracking. Anyone know about this?
