Just saw, for the first time, a 780 seven weeks ago...bought it for 1400 dollars from a used car dealer on Beaver Ruin in Norcross, GA. Obviously had no idea what was on his lot! Everything works (now)...Replaced 700.00 Nivomat shocks with $11.00 U-Pull-It price Nivomats(Buford Hwy.) I think I am going to go back and pull all of them from the remaining three 700's with Nivomats for the future. Idler pulley for A/C and a recharge from a can, no less - cold air! New tires and hours of elbow grease in the engine bay revealed a shiny, leak-free engine and transmission. Sweet deal! Love everything except the engine. Runs very well, yes, but is grossly underpowered. Intend to swap in a later year Ford 5.0 with manual tranny. Any info regarding conversion welcome, as I will do all the work in my garage at home. Some very minor body damage, usual dings and scratches, but otherwise pristine inside and out after a thorough detailing. Does anyone run tires other than the skinny 195/65's? Any idea why later models were equipped with the skinnier tire? Stock for previous years were 205/60's, I believe. Not a lot of clearance on the wheel well side, even for the 195's. Also, anyone have experience with aerosol touch up paint? Oh, AW71 transmissions at same junkyard...CHEEEP!
