Solution to Acceleration Problem...sort of 700

Hey Bricksters

I had a problem where I replaced my water pump and immediately afterwards had no acceleration, car ran fine, started fine but had no umpff.

My shop said my timing was off by 2 1/2 teeth. Yes, the half number between 2 and 3. They said that whoever changed the pump, replaced the timing belt incorrectly by 2 teeth. I DID NOT REMOVE THE BELT TO REPLACE THE PUMP.

So they adjusted the belt for the 2 teeth, but obviously couldn't do anything about the 1/2 tooth. They say the cause is the crankshaft pulley has slipped. Well is must have slipped by 2 1/2 teeth. The car runs as it did before changing the pump.

Now..did I cause this when I changed the pump. If not, why did it happen so suddenly, immediately after changing the water pump???
