Hey all brickers:
Just got my 88 740 project car back together - did a valave job - reman head and all the sundries. Thought it had a seized cam (from previous owner description of its death). After start-up, I still have problems with the oil light and my impression is a failing oil pump. I thought about taking it out when I had the head off (dumb me for not). I have essentially ruled out a bad oil pressure switch - the oil that came out of it was nasty, so I am leaning towards a clogged screen or worn pump. How bad is it to lift the 740 b-230 and get the pan off? I am thinking about doing the rod bearings too! Can get a febi pump for $99 and standard rod bearings for $21. I have about $950 invested in this car - previous owner put in a rebuilt trans and I just did the head and everyhing else you can image - t-belt, water pump, seals.
How bad can it be? My local garage would probably get me for 300-400.
