I racked up 1200 miles in my ‘93 T-Rex beater the past few days. About 200 miles out of town I developed a 55MPH coasting speed. Luckily it only took a min to find the problem and correct. The throttle cable came off its track on the bail and wound around the kick-down bail. The kick-down cable was also off track. I was using the cruise control quite a bit so it must have been caused by an odd combination of my throttle action and cruise. The bullet shaped tip at the end of the cable sheath was found lying on the throttle body. I recall reading a post a few years ago on this same subject.
I couldn’t break the 30 MPG barrier that I hear of occasionally. It must be a myth. Maybe, if only I’d taken out the fuel nozzle at the first click. I’ll have to be satisfied with 29.6.
While I was away, T-Rex’s 100k badge came in the mail. Actually, 120k with a 100k ’94 engine. (Thank you Jiffy Lube.) It took 3 weeks.
