Stalls out 700 1991

My 91 740 Turbo won't stay running at idle. This started the other day and I brought it to my mechanic who of course could not duplicate the problem. Now it seems fine. Bad gas? Will checking the codes help? Sensor or possible electrical failure? Thanks for helping.
