driving me crazy: wild fluctuating temp gauge on a non comp car 200

on my 82 240...i'm still getting massive flucutations in temperature corresponding to how much stress is on the engine.

ON a cold day...it will stay at 1/3 and on a hot summer day here in san diego it goes all the way to 1/2 during highway driving. During city driving in the summer(now) it comes down to 1/3 and if i coast down a 1 mile hill or even a 1/2 mile hill the thermostat drops from like the halfway mark to like 8%. So the temperature corresponds to the amount of stress put on the engine..a bit too well.

IN my opinion this is going to do something bad to the engine....along the lines of a headgasket leak or something on that level.

A drop from 1/2 all the way to 8% is way too much.

THe radiator is 3 years old(nissens brand. THe thermostat, waterpump, belts, hoses are all about 5 months old. The system was flushed out about 2 months ago.

It was like this before i did all these things as well. and
The wiring to the temp sending unit is fine
I can see three sensors on the intake side of my kjet engine...all are connected.?
i'm frankly really stumped:)

the only thing left is the actual coolant temperature sending unit????

thanks
