I just wanted to post a message regarding the broadside hit that totaled my 1993 240 today. My 16 year old was driving with a friend today in heavy Atlanta traffic during a rain storm. She was struck broadside right in the middle, t-bone style after running a red light in a confusing multi-lane/merge lane situation. All drivers and passengers were unscratched. Only two months ago, my wife insisted that we replace our 1990 Camry with something more safe. The 90 Camry's do not have airbags. I found the nicest 240 possible with 120,000 miles and fell in love with it, paying $5,700 and then putting an immediate $800 into it fixing the overdrive, temp sensor and a full 120000 mile service.
Only yesterday I posted to this board about my brake lights and just today I went out and bought and installed a brake failure relay based on the kind help of those on this board. $60, problem fixed.
I just thank God that my daughter, her friend and the other driver are 100% OK. I honestly think my daughter would have been hurt if she had been in the Camry. Both driver side doors were totally collapsed but were not breached to the inside. The "cage" worked like it is known and supposed to.
I had it towed to a friend's auto body shop and he unoffically pronounced Elanor (my daughters name for the car) totaled. He said it was way beyond totaled.
Anyway, just a reminder as to one of the reasons we are all on this board. Because one of the reasons these cars evoke such passion is that we feel safe in them and safe when our family is out driving them.
I will be back as soon as I find a replacement for Elanor. Thanks to all who have helped me.
Peace and God bless!
