Today I managed to kill the switch form my hazard lights. About 6 weeks ago I had a coolant leak out my heater valve, and I haven't put all my interior panels back together yet cos there's always something in there to check This means my central console is a bit loose and I think that's why the two halves of my hazard switch finally seperated.
I tried to turn the hazards on today and the switch wouldn't click properly, I pulled the console off to see why, and the whole switch fell apart. Major nuiscance, because, as you all know boys and girls, power for the turn signals runs through one of the terminals on the hazard light switch.
I removed the front half of the switch, and left it with the copper terminals hanging out the console, then I made a jumper out of panadol foil and taped it in place. Bingo, turn signals worked again. I drove it to the service station and back with no problems. It was only when I removed the key and the seatbelt light continued to flash that I realised I'd jumped wrong terminals, I removed the jumper rather than park it with my seatbelt done up.
There is actually a question in this post, but I thought the recipe for driving with a broken hazard switch should be included in the archives, since I'm sure Haynes doesn't include it. I'll post some photos later.
I should have my new switch by the end of the week, but the wires on the back of the old one seem pretty well attached. What's the trick to swapping them over? Do I have to connect them further up the loom, or are they removable on the back of the switch?
