Posting question again--Can an aftermarket Auto Shift Knob be used ?

I posted this in both the aftermarket and rear wheel drive forums, but didn't get any responses. I'm starting to wonder if anyone has ever done this.

I'm interested in placing an aftermarket shift knob in my 91 740. Has anyone ever done this or know if it can be done? I'll need a way to link up the gear lock and the overdrive switch.

Anyone ever thought about this or know if it can be done?
