740 GLE A/C Sytem help needed... 700

Hi Everybody,
I have a 88 Volvo 740 gle with non turbo 4 cylinder engine.I bought the car 3 years ago.It had been sitting at my frineds garage about 2 years... so last year i decided to fill the A/C Systema nd see if it work.. Me being a cheap ass or not want to spend too much money i bought one of those conversion kits from wallmart... after that i installed the adapter to my dryer..(shiny tank in the passerger side of the engine compartment... and then started filling it with R13a gas. holding the cans upside donw and make sure oil in th ecan goes to system.. After i did that everything worked fine (actually really good.. i got really cold air..)it continued like that for 3 days and sunddenly i wasn't getting any more cold air... so i figured it that it might have a leak and i added more gas... after couple of days i started hearing a noise coming from my compressor it was making the sound on each full turn .. So i was scred and cut the belt off.. That was last summer.. Now summer is coming and i wanna get my A/C system up and running .. I am palning to do it the RIGHT WAY this time.. So my Questions is do u think is the compressor still good or should i go and invest some money on a brand new compressor? And once i am messing with the system should i change the hoses and lines with it ? I am planing to get the Retrofit kit from Volvo and the suplemental kit too... and how hard to install the hoses and the kit?
Thanks for ur help
Sammy
