Fuel Pump Current Draw 200 1982

Hello,
My 82 DL NA K-Jet (120K) has a fuel pump that makes a high pitch tone. The car works fine but I checked out a few things to prevent a problem. The in tank pump works and draws about 1.2 amps which looks ok. The main pump draws over 12amps at idle measured at the fuse holder. Is this high and a symptom of a failing pump. Thanks.
