Pulling off the downpipe (that cracked a the Y), I find scuff-marks (from ground contact) on the heat shield on both sides of the bracket that hangs from the bell-housing. In addition, the L-shaped part of the bracket between the pipe and the bell-housing is now less than a 90-degree angle, and the long side (vertical) with the two holes is not flat. Is this Volvo’s design, or should I square up the bracket?
I had a close call last week discovering a failed passenger side motor mount (oil filter against motor mount), which turned out to include a bad transmission mount. This followed the initial exhaust leak by 2 or 3 weeks. Could the motor shifting backward bend the exhaust bracket, or crack the pipe, or was it more likely the ground contact? (teen-driver accountability issue)
