orifice or expansion valve 90' 745

i have a 1990 745 and have recently started to convert the a/c over to r134. Stupid me, i forgot to note how the original orifice/expansion valve sits in the pipe going into the firewall passenger side and just took it out.

I want to install a new one. Is there a particular position that I should insert the new orifice/expansion valve?

any help is appreciated
