Power output B230 900 1992

Hi
I just testdrove an 86' 740 wagon with a B230 engine with continuous injection pre-cat type, and the car is a real flyer compared to my own with a B230 F non-turbo. I was just wondering-- is it the camshaft, or the injection which makes that engine so lively? Did anyone convert one of those engines (B230) to electronic injection?
