J- or P-type Overdrive 700

to my shame i have to obmitt that i got to got totally confused. I'm now not sure if i have a J- or P-type overdrive in my '87 Volvo 740 turbo wagon with the M46 tranny. I took a fast look in the morning under my car but couldn't see any tag (maybe i looked to "fast"??) How do i determin if i have a J- or P-type (are they interchangeable??)
