Should I Remove A/C From My 1972 ES 1800

My 1800ES is in very good to excellent condition and has the dealer installed optional "Volvo" air conditioning system. The previous owner updated it to the Japanese rotary style air compressor which is a popular improvement to make to these.

Even at it's best this system never really did much to cool the car, and now it is broken. I'm leaning heavily towards simply removing the entire thing and closing up the firewall holes, etc. which would be left behind. One reason is that my right knee bumps into the driver's side vent. Another reason is the overall clutter and mess of this option. It is hardly an elegant solution. The car would also probably be 100 lbs lighter with everthing out of there.

What do you all think? Does anyone want to talk me into keeping this so cool option?

TIA for your thoughts,
John
