This morning whilst out shopping, I espied an old 700 sedan for sale which was parked at the roadside about 150 yards from my home. I immediately decided to take a look, just out of curiousity. Having only just bought my 1990 745 I certainly don't need another hungry Brick to feed at ths point in time!!!
What I found was a 1986 (British 'C' registration) 760 GLE in gold with a black leather interior which looked very good at first glance. On closer inspection I discovered from the notice in the window that it had only done 36,000 miles in the hands of one previous owner.
The interior was *truly immaculate*, with no wear on the seats, trim or controls whatsoever, although there was no radio fitted. It looked like a two year old car inside, which suggests that the mileage is correct. The bodywork was devoid of scrapes, dents and serious rust, save for a cracked finisher strip under one headlamp, a thumbnail-sized rust spot in the middle of the passenger side front door and the slightest traces of surface rust on the bottom edges of the rear wheel arches. The alloy wheels' lacquer was flaking a bit, but the tyres were good.
The only fault that was declared on the notice in the window was that the car needed an exhaust manifold gasket. It also stated that many parts had been replaced recently. I didn't drive the car or hear it running, but I imagine the mechancial side, apart from the gasket, would be as good as the visible parts of the car.
The asking price was £350 (About $650 US), which is worth it for the interior alone.
If I was looking for another Brick the 760 would now be on my driveway :) :) :)
If any British Brickster is interested in the car, email me for more details. This car should be sold to a Volvo enthusiast!
