ok, i just replaced the tie rods inner and outer which helped a bit, but i still get a substantial shake above 45, it is a sort of on then off rythmic chatter/clatter which can be felt through the wheel and sometimes through the whole car. i swapped my rear wheels for the fronts to see if it was a balance issue, but i get identical results with this setup, leading me to believe it is not poorly balanced wheels. I initially thought the problem was the drivers side inner tie rod as the boot was torn and the inside ball joint was corroded, but now that that is replaced im beginning to suspect the rack as the noise seems to come from the drivers side and i think its coming up the steering column. any suggestions as to what else this could be would be appreciated, control arm bushings, lower ball joint, etc... what is the best way to test? Im heading back to school in a week and i dont want to have to make the drive from indianapolis to milwaukee with this scary problem. one more thing that leads me to believe the rack is the problem is that when replacing the tie rods, there seemed to be a little play in the rack, you could pull it in and out a little and hear a metallic clicking,, is this normal? any help or suggestions as always are greatly appreciated. any volvo gurus in indianapolis that wanna help me out?
