Hard/Impossible to start 93 944T 900

My 93 944T is almost impossible to start...it cranks just fine, but wont really start.....she fires a few times but i let off the starter and she dies. I can basically run the car out of battery juice before she starts sometimes. I got her started eventually but she has a wierd idle....you floor it and she sputters a bit. After turning her off, it still becomes hard to start.....I noticed my alternator belt needs tightening so I'm gonna try that tonite.

I sprayed ether in the airbox in the hopes it would fire right up, but that didnt help.

Any thoughts.
