First Volvo: A dud or deal? 200 1981

Someone is selling a 1981 DL 4 door with 144,000 miles. The automatic transmission doesn't move in reverse if the accelerator pedal is pushed. Otherwise, supposedly it works well. I haven't test driven it, but there were no leaks under the car when I looked. The owner bought it from a mechanic 8 months ago; the tranny died (details unknown) so he replaced it with a junkyard tranny, which supposedly had this problem ever since. Should I run?
