Trans lube for a 'Crunchy' 3rd gear 200 1987

This is an '87 245 with a 5ive speed. I think that makes it a M47. Anyways, the car has 250k on it and the 3rd gear synchro is pretty beat so the gears cruch a little going into 3rd. I'm planning on changing the fluid in the trans tomorrow and over filling it by jacking up the left side of the car. I've got two quarts of dextron ATF in the garage I could use. I know Volvo recommends ATF in the manual boxes too. But I was thinking, maybe I should put in some heavy weight gear oil like Castrol 80/90 to help with the crunch. What do you all think?

It's Jim (in Hartford CT)
