Switch for Disconnected Lockup Solenoid on 1992 960 Volvo 900

I have a 1992 960 Volvo which had the typical problems experienced with those early Asian Warner computerized lockup transmissions: busy transmission and sticking solenoid. I followed the advice of someone that works at a Volvo dealership and has a similar problem with his 93 960. I disconnected the Yellow wire going to the transmission. Now the transmission is smooth like th eone on my 86 740 but I have no lock up. I expect this will reduce my gas mileage for highway driving.

Has anyone else disconnected this yellow wire? Has anyone tried putting a switch on the dashboard to the the yellow wire to switch on the lockup only when one is on the highway?
