stalling when braking 900 1993

My '93 940 (nonturbo) occasionally stalls during rapid braking. When I sit in the driveway with the engine running and press down the brake petal for several seconds, the let up on it, the rpm seems to flutter up and down. Anybody have a suggestion as to possible causes, or further diagnostic tests?
