Dash Display and Guage Problems 700

I recently put an aftermarked stereo unit into my 87 745T and have been experiencing electrical problems since. There was a wire that shorted (I don't know what it is, its yellow from the headlamp switch to the back of the factory radio) and melted the cover off so I had to cut it out.

Since then, the light for the dash display has burnt out and my fuel and engine temp guages have stopped working. The gueages are both off, both on or one is working (either).

What is the yellow wire and is it important?

How do I get the dash display out ot fix the bulb?

What do I need to do about those guages to make them work?
