Good morning!

Well, after putting the job off for over a year, my son and I are going to pull the engine and trans to fix some oil leaks around the turbo and the rear main seal.

So far we have put the car up on stands, the drained the oil and coolant, disconnected the exhaust and driveshaft, and are working our way through the electricals labeling things as we go.

Questions so far:

what's the best way to disconnect the fuel lines on this engine? I was originally planning to disconnect the input and return lines above the air cleaner and then put the aircleaner/fuel distrib unit in a plastic bag and put it on top of the engine, leaving all of the injector lines intact. A friend has advised disconnecting the individual lines at the fuel distributor instead. Any BTDTs?

Also, I found a small amount of play in the turbo wheel (<1mm), with no wear marks on the blades etc. No smoke to speak of--a small "puff" on cold start once in a great while, none after decel/hard accel cycle. It's a water-cooled unit that has been providing great boost to date, so I'm reluctant to replace it now (kid's car and all that). On the other hand, we ARE going to be "in there . . ."

Any advice/opinions (even smart remarks) welcome!

Regards,

Steve A-

BTW, we're also parting an old wagon due to rust (it was a northern car) and will have a b230f and AW-70 ready shortly (eastern VA) in case anybody needs one/them. Thanks again!
