Tachometer Reads Low 200

I just substituted a used Tachometer from a 240 for the large clock, and the Tach works but reads low. Idle looks to be closer to 500 RPM and revs are extremely low with shift points for the automatic occuring around 1500-2000 RPM under full load. The 245 is new to me, but somehow I think it revs a bit higher than that. Any guesses? This tach was bought off e-bay from the "hardworkinghandyman" so its possible he gave me the wrong tach, but everything else seems right with it.

Ideas?
