OK the head rebuild is done and Ole Reliable is running ... better .... but still smoking .... so all that leaves is the rings. Including the engine I have in the car at the moment, I have two other B20 short blocks lying around. The one I just took out turned out to be bored .030" ... but it was suffering from what I believe was piston slap .... so probably those 30 over pistons are not usable.... but the block itself, if not belled or ovaled might be a starting place .... but I will probably have to buy a new set of pistons. The OTHER block is a PENTA B20 which has been laying around for several years with the cylinders open to the weather and without a doubt will have to be bored. I have been told that the oil pump on the Penta motors is a higher volume than the automotive B20 ... can anyone confirm this ? The third option is the current B20E bottom end now in the car which I believe is probably in the best shape of all the blocks ... it has the 8 bolt flywheel where the old engine had only the 6 bolt.... will have to go have a look at the Penta and count holes. Plans currently call for the installation of one of the cams and kits from IPD or ISKY in the rebuilt engine. This is next summer's project. Just wondering if you guys and gals might have any opinions, ideas, suggestions etc.
Now ... here's one right off the wall .... I was over at a local old Volvo place and he has three stories of parts stashed away over his garage .... I noticed that he has a bunch of Turbos just sitting there. My fertile mind started working (yeah .. I know that is dangerous) and I can't help but wonder if anyone has ever installed a Turbo off the newer series of engine on a B20 .... in particular a B20E ..... would really appreciate hearing how it turned out ... yeah I KNOW the B20E has at least a 10.5:1 compression ratio ..... Just thinkin' ...
